DISCOVERED! THE TWO YOUNG MEN WHO ARE GRADUALLY BUILDING A WORLD CLASS EMPIRE

Ibadan is a land flowing with milk and honey. As people would like to describe it, it is a city of gold and rust. Perhaps, the rust represents the ancient and dilapidated brown roofs you can find in areas like molete, bodija etc. But when it comes to the gold, it is ambiguous in meaning. Not only does it represent modernization, it equally represents opportunities, wealth, peace and as many good things as you can classify it. The youths are consistently rooting and banking on these opportunities. Unlike previous interviews, this one features two young bosses and entrepreneurs who are gradually building a world class empire slowly but steadily. Simply sit back and enjoy!

On today's interview, we get to meet two young men. The first is Adefolarin Daniel Adeboye. He was born on September 22 to Mr and Mrs Adeboye, from ilesha in Osun State. His primary education was at Goodnews Nursery and Primary School in Ibadan while his Secondary school was at Ise Oluwa Montesori High School Ibadan. His tertiary education was at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State. Adefolarin is a business manager/ consultant, a financial consultant, a geographer and a master chef among others. The Second is Feyi Sitsofe Kwami who was born on the 28th of september to the family of Mr and Mrs Feyi. A Ghanian by birth from volta region and christian by religion. On arriving to Nigeria, he studied Economics at the University of Ibadan. He is the co- founder of F & K Services. This interview is a major eye opener and will encourage you to stay focused and determined on your goal. Enjoy the interview!

1. TELL US MORE ABOUT YOURSELF

FOLARIN
- I'm Adefolarin Adeboye. A graduate of University of Ibadan. I'm a business manager/consultant, financial consultant, geographer and a chef. Co - founder F & K global services.

KWAMI - I am Feyi Sitsofe. A graduate of Economics, University of Ibadan. I am a chef, Business manager and consultant, A motivational speaker, a teacher and a baker.

2. WHEN WAS F AND K BIRTHED?

FOLARIN
- On the 12th of April, 2016. 1 and a half year ago.

3. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START F AND K?

KWAMI
- Doing business has always been our desire right from the university and during our stay in school, we got ourselves entangled in so many businesses - developing some, selling some, giving ideas to help businesses grow etc. So when we graduated, we decided to start our own business. We had so many businesses to start but had to start with something. We didn't want to work with our certificate. We wanted to impact lives and knowing fully well that our father's house is not our house neither is our parent's wealth ours, we needed to get ourselves to work, to create an avenue to make an impact in this competitive economy. So, I'll say we've actually being growing to love doing business, be entrepreneurs, create new ideas, reshape old ones and help not only our state but our country, Africa and the continent as a whole. Our inspiration has been wanting to make an impact in the lives of people - making life easy.

4. BEING PARTNERS, WHO FIRST GOT THE IDEA AND WHO APPROACHED THE OTHER FIRST?

KWAMI
- Lol. It happened miraculously in such a way that we didn't plan it. While I was in 400 level, I met and fell in love with his sister (not blood though), but his close female pal. So, that brought us together in a way. Then after we all graduated, he wanted to work for some time. So, a friends advised him to contact me for a job, which he did. At that time, I too didn't have any job on ground. Then one day, after praying, I just remembered him and I asked my fiancee if she would love me to partner with her brother for life - business partners. She was happy about the decision just like I was because finally, I had a partner with various business skills and who was God chosen. We didn't have any money on ground. We were just fresh. I called him and asked him to be my partner. Firstly, we spoke at length to see if our views correlated. And yes, it did. So, yes, I did the approaching which if I come back into this world again, he will still be my partner.

5. HOW HAS THE JOURNEY BEEN SO FAR?
KWAMI - Ha! The journey has been rough o. Very rough. But we are very happy and grateful because we we're growing everyday and expanding our services. When life brings orange, we squeeze it and turn it to orange juice

6. WHAT WAS THE FIRST EVER SERVICE YOU STARTED UNDER F AND K?
Our first service was the F &K meals - a brand that deals only in meals - cooking meals and delivering it.

7. WHY F AND K MEALS?

KWAMI
- The thing is we had great plans and wonderful business ideas but we needed to start from somewhere. So, we decided to check ourselves. What could we do flawlessly and didn't require much capital but as little as 30k? And that's how we came about F & K Meals.

8. GREAT. PRESENTLY, THE MOST PARAMOUNT OF ALL YOUR SERVICWS IS THE F AND K SAVINGS. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO VENTURE INTO THE ART OF SAVING MONEY FOR PEOPLE?

FOLARIN - Ok. I wouldn't say it's f and k savings alone. Its actually f and k meals as well as f and k savings. When we were in school, we did businesses, we made some money which we spent recklessly and when we wanted to start our own business, we found out we were broke. We had little or no savings. This prompted us to start f and k savings. We didn't want others to fall into the same problem. Also, we realized that today's people (youths most especially) find it hard to imbibe or cultivate the habit of savings. We spend the money as they come in, and so when they really need the money, they can't get it. These and many more reasons prompted us to start f and k savings.

9. DID THE F AND K SAVINGS PROMPT YOU TO VENTURE INTO BUSINESS MANAGEMENT?
FOLARIN - No. Business management and consultancy has always been part of our services. It wasn't prompted by f and k savings. We just made it more accessible through f and k savings.

10. YOU RECENTLY STARTED A DELIVERY SERVICE. DOES IT CUT ACROSS JUST THE UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN OR THE ENTIRE IBADAN?

FOLARIN - Oh. We have always had pick up and delivery service. But to make delivery easy and fast, we decided to partner with another delivery agency, all to serve our customers better and it cuts across the entire Ibadan. And if need be, outside Ibadan.

11. THAT'S QUITE INNOVATIVE. WHAT HAS THE FEEDBACK FOR YOUR SERVICES OFFERED BEEN LIKE?

FOLARIN - It has been amazing. Our customers are well aware of the fact that we give them the best, nothing but the best and so, they keep coming back. Our services are exquisite and classy. They are also price friendly, so  the feedback has been good. We are working hard to make it better.

12. AT THE INCEPTION, ASIDE FROM FINANCE, WHAT WERE THE OTHER CHALLENGES YOU FACED?

KWAMI - Location, Parent Consent, How to start and the business plan itself.

13. HOW FAR HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO TACKLE THESE CHALLENGES?

FOLARIN
- Well, in every business, as you are solving one challenge, another one arises. This is absolutely normal. We are determined and this determination has helped us to see the challenges as not being a big deal. So far, we have been able to tackle them efficiently. We haven't allowed them overcome us. Thank God.

14. WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT IBADAN AS A START UP LOCATION FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

FOLARIN - Ibadan is actually a good location for any start up business. I mean, excluding none. Ibadan has the population, the rescources to help a new business. Also, the standard of living in Ibadan is relatively low compared to some states in Nigeria. And so, as an entrepreneur, if you are looking to start a business in Ibadan, I think you are on the right track.

15. WHAT WOULD YOU ADVISE ANYONE PLANNING TO START UP A BUSINESS IN IBADAN?

FOLARIN
- Hmmm. A lot to tell them though, but I will make it brief. Take your time to find a suitable location, a location that fits your market. There are a lot of deceitful locations in Ibadan. I mean, locations that make you believe you would sell, but you won't. So, take your time and search well. Also, be easy and gentle with the people of Ibadan. Just like Lagos, Ibadan is also well populated. People are busy and they have no time  to waste. Try to be creative and innovative. Ibadan has a lot of businesses. There is probably someone somewhere doing what you are planning to do, but with creativity, you can beat them.

16. AS AN ENTREPRENEUR, WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST INTERESTING ASPECT OF YOUR BUSINESS?

FOLARIN - #laughs. There are many aspects interesting about this. As we have said earlier, we are not forced entrepreneurs. We have the passion for what we do. We love what we do and so we derive joy in doing it. So, all aspects have been interesting. There have been the positives and negatives, but all of them are interesting and we learn from them.

17. HOW WAS IT SELECTING YOUR TEAM MEMBERS?

FOLARIN - Well, selecting the team wasn't an easy feat. It took time and careful studying. Finding the right person for the right post - we understood the fact that team work makes the dream work, so we were careful with getting the right team. We had to look for people who have passion, people who are hardworking and are team players. We've known some of them before and some, we don't know. At the end of the day, we did a good job. Some are still on the team till today and they are doing amazingly well. Those that have left have been replaced with capable hands.

18. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOTIVATION SO FAR?

FOLARIN - Our dream of being a success and impacting lives. Also, the fact that we have to make a lot of people proud.

19. WHERE DO YOU ENVISION F AND K IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?

FOLARIN - Hmm. In 10 years, the F and K brand would be a global brand, with improvement and more class added to all our services. Now, we are not yet a global brand. In 10 years, we hope to be on the mouth of everyone in such a way that when they hear or see F AND K, they know what we do.

20. WHAT'S YOUR ADVICE TO UPCOMING ENTREPRENEURS? / CONCULDING WORDS

FOLARIN - Never give up, be disciplined, be determined, be persistent. Get ready to fail ( use failure as a step to success). Also, be sensitive psychologically and spiritually. Be open minded, seek for advice and aim high.

Catherine Cook said, 'To any entrepreneur: if you want to do it, do it now. If you don't, you're going to regret it'. These two are the inspiration and motivation we all need to kickstart that budding idea. Why don't you start now?
